License Plate Recognition
What is License Plate Recognition?
LTS License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology in video security surveillance systems brings a transformative approach to security and access control. By automatically capturing, analyzing, and responding to license plates as a vehicle enters the field of view, LPR technology streamlines parking management, enhances perimeter security, and assists security personnel in monitoring traffic.
This technology supports law enforcement in identifying and tracking vehicles of interest, bolstering public safety efforts. LTS’s LPR security hardware and technology systems integrate seamlessly with existing security infrastructure, providing real-time alerts and data analytics for informed decision-making. The automation of vehicle identification reduces manpower requirements and increases operational efficiency. With applications ranging from smart cities and public parking garages to gated communities, shopping malls, and commercial facilities, LPR technology is pivotal in creating safer, more efficient environments.
How does it work
If you live in a big city – or any densely-populated area – then you know how important it is to automate vehicle monitoring in every way possible. LTS wants to help you do just that.
Then...
Originally, LTS License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, known in some places as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, harnessed the capabilities of optical character recognition (OCR) technology to read license plates. These helpful cameras captured images of vehicles, and the LPR software analyzed them to detect and isolate their license plate. The OCR component then interpreted the characters – numbers, letters, and other symbols.
Now...
With older OCR technology, LPR cameras might pick up text and numbers on the side of a truck passing by, for example, or other characters that are not needed by the system. Today, however, newer cameras feature AI-based recognition. These intelligent cameras not only recognize and read license plates, they also note features of the vehicles – exterior color, vehicle model, type, and brand, and can even identify motorcycles. Today’s LPR cameras also trigger alerts with known plates, offering automated allow- and block-list responses.
Advantages
License plate data along with other vehicle attributes can be stored and searched for using LTS video management software or any compatible platform. Plates can also be compared against information in the user’s database for various purposes, including push notifications.
LPR cameras from LTS read plates from different states and US territories, despite variations in color and design.
CLEAR DETAILS FOR RECOGNITION
LPR cameras face many challenges related to imbalanced lighting, such as dark shadows across vehicle plates, low-contrast between plates and character colors, bright sunlight outside a parking garage against dim, synthetic lights inside, and so on. But LTS LPR cameras come equipped with advanced sensors to capture plate numbers and other details clearly. Details from passing vehicles are displayed in color, even in tricky lighting.
Affordable Plate Recognition, Day & Night
The Platinum 4 MP LPR LTCMIP7943WLPR-32R Camera with motorized varifocal lens ensures parking lots and structures, entry & exit points, apartment complexes, and enclosed communities are secured by recognizing who is coming and going, any hour of the day. And they do it all at an affordable price.
Details in View
The LTS LPR Cameras note key metadata such as color, vehicle type, and more. Deep learning-based algorithms enable them to achieve functions beyond traditional algorithms, boasting high recognition accuracy with both common and complex plates. This data radically enhances the search and recall capabilities of backend devices, giving security personnel the tools they need for rapid evidence collection – until the last car leaves the lot.
Applications
Primarily designed for parking management in public and private garages, and for toll or fee collection on toll roads, bridges, and event parking, LTS license plate recognition cameras also assist law enforcement with evidence when an incident takes place.
